Our engineering team recently undertook a project within the wind sector. The original enclosures and transformers at this 37.5 MW, 15+ year-old wind farm posed an operational, environmental and security risk for our client. Following a site visit and in conjunction with the client, the newly upgraded enclosures (3mm galvanized steel with power-cost finish) plus galvanized oil bunds were designed and manufactured offsite.
During a planned site outage all existing units were dismantled and removed offsite. The redesigned enclosures not only enclose the 20Kv RMU’s and 690v Circuit breakers but also the 1.6Mva Transformers. The original transformers were in pretty poor condition, having being exposed to the elements since the farms commission.
