How do Avonmore Electrical go the extra mile in our Workshop?
No two days are the same in our Workshop, and we love a chance to properly diagnose problems for our customers and give preventative advice for the future. A recent example was the arrival of a 160-kilowatt compressor motor (which is usually used as spare motor), which exhibited signs of static indentation on the drive end bearing.
While some competitors might simply discard the failed bearing and fit a new one without investigating the root cause of the failure, the Avonmore Electrical approach is to go the extra mile and first investigate. Instead of just treating the symptoms, our commitment to #KeepingIndustryRunning and providing first class customer service, means that we are passionate about identifying root cause.
Our team invested extra efforts to dismantle the bearing, using a disc grinder to cut the outer ring and the inner ring, so that the damage caused by the rolling elements could be inspected.
This inspection revealed that while the motor was stationary (in standby mode), environmental vibrations from nearby machinery (vibration transferring to this spare motor) caused the rolling elements to vibrate between the inner and outer ring, causing damage.
Thisย “static indentation”ย damages both the outer and inner rings, leading to immediate and severe bearing damage when the motor is started, significantly shortening the lifespan of the bearing.
Our team could then advise the customer on the correct course of action they should take going forward. We advised them to address the external vibration source, rather than just replacing failed parts, which will save them time and money in the long run.
